An orthotic is an appliance worn in your shoe to help correct inappropriate foot mechanics.
Most people would benefit from use of an orthotic to lessen wear and tear on your feet and bunion formation, reduce chronic foot/ ankle/ knee/ hip/ sacroiliac/ low back pain related to standing or activity, slow down degenerative changes in your knees, first line care for Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis, optimization of bio mechanics for athletic performance, and prevention of injury related to occupation or athletic activity.
Dr. Leering uses exclusively the Gaitscan system under license by The Orthotic Group. He has been doing custom orthotic assessment and dispensing since starting practice in 1997. He believes that for most cases a Gaitscan impression is the best way to go and prefers the modules dispensed by the lab at The Orthotic Group. We are able to very specifically customize any order. Less than 5% of the orders Dr. Leering prescribes require an adjustment.
A consultation would take about 15-20 minutes, but be prepared to get a lesson on walking. You will both stand and walk over the force plate which is connected to a laptop.
Turn-around times from the lab in Markham, Ontario is reasonably quick once we place your order.
Costs for the orthotic include consultation time, the Gaitscan, all insurance paperwork, shipping, dispensing fees, and the orthotic itself. Any adjustment is completely covered.
In some cases a note from your Medical Doctor is required for insurance reimbursement. Please carefully check your policy as each is different. We can do a consultation first at no charge and supply your Medical Doctor with a note and copy of the scan.
Note that once you get the orthotic, there is a bit of a break-in period…that is for you to break into the regular use of the orthotic. Generally it takes about a week to fully accommodate to them. As well, you shouldn’t workout or do sustained activity until you’ve fully accommodated to them.
If your custom orthotic is being prescribed as collateral treatment for plantar fasciitis with shockwave therapy, we can rush the order and have it to you within a week.
We can also do stock modified custom shoes on special order. Please consult The Orthotic Group’s website for a complete, up to date, model line. www.tog.com
Foam casting is available at no extra cost if your insurance company requires it.
Please draw upon Dr. Leering’s advice and experience and know you are getting the best product on the market.
